Q: what are economical options for heat/air in bonus room over garage?
Room is 400 sq ft and is insulated all around.
A: Split Type
The most economical way to install would be eletric baseboard heat with a room a/c unit that goes through a wall or window. This would have the cheapest install price but a heafty operating cost. I like to have Split Type A/c units installed when working on a single room addition. They are very economical to run in the long run. They have a condesing unit outside and a "head" unit inside. Usually the head unit is about 12" high, 28" wide, and comes off the wall about 4". The great thing about these units is you can get one with a heat pump in it that will provide plenty of heat for the room. Depending on the unit, usually one can be installed for between $3000 to $4000 dollars.
