Q: What materials are used for metal countertops in kitchens?

I would love to learn more about metal countertops. I saw some metal countertops in design magazine, but there was no mention of the maker or the materials used in these countertops (must have been a goof). What are these made of? Brushed aluminum? Stainless steal? How do these compare in cost to granite, marble, etc.? Are there any issues to be aware of with metal countertops? Thanks for the information.

A: The character of metal counter tops

Metal counter tops are made with stainless steel. Price wise they are pretty comparable to most high end counter tops (such as granite). They are very anti-bacterial because they are less porous than most any other type of counter top. The only issue to be aware of is that they do not stay perfect looking. Look at a stainless steel sink after it has been used for a year and you will be able to see what you should expect. This does give your counter tops a sort of character. They are other things you can do with a wire wheel to give it a different finish as well. I hope this was helpful.
