Q: I had a disreputable contractor grind my existing granite countertop to install a new sink 3 weeks ago. How can I get rid of ALL THE DUST?
We have had the house cleaned twice, the carpets cleaned twice, the air ducts cleaned and I am still having breathing problems from all the dust! I am at my wits end!
All I can say is to start from the top down. I used to work for a cleaning company (factories mostly, but some houses) and this is how we attacked things.
I also just put my own concrete countertop in my house, and made the first cut for a sink hole before I'd made a plastic tent over the area. I've heard, and now believe, cutting concrete is about the dustiest thing you can do. I cleaned my house the same way.
One thing I noticed was dust all through the cabinets. It was travelling right across the tops of them. In fact, my silverware drawer (way on the other side of the dishwasher) got hit as well.
So, start at the top, work your way down, clean even the insides of the cabinets and everything that's in them, and it should be fine.
