Q: What types of hardwood species are light sensitive?
I have seen several examples of hardwood flooring that tend to darken or lighten when in direct sunlight for long periods of time.

Ben, you are correct. There are many species of hardwood flooring that are light sensitive. Most species are exotic. Examples of species that are light sensitive are:
Cumaru
Brazilian Cherry
Ipe (Strongest hardwood species)
Santos Mahogany
Tigerwood
Andiroba
Australian Cypress
and many more...
You will notice these species tend to become darker the more they are exposed to light. Therefore, if you rearrange your living room and you have lighter and darker blocks where furniture once sat do not worry. It will take a while for the floors to even out but eventually they will all darken. Do not hesitate to move your area rugs, tables, and couches occasionally to even the floors look.
I have heard from customers about how they rearranged their furniture every other month. Othera simply slowed the process by getting tinted windows and internal window coverings such as shutters and venetian blinds.
