While I don't like saying any one company has the BEST product, I do have my favorites depending on the style I need. You are in California. One of my favorite flooring lines coming out of your neck of the woods is The Garrison Collection. The line offers wide planks, some in random widths, several species, you can get it smooth, scraped, stained , french bleed, or natural. I think they offer a more custom look for a very reasonable price.
There many good flooring lines available to consumers and I like each of them for very different reasons. Wood itself is a product that will last a long a time. How long depends on how often it's being refinished or the kind of care it receives. Most wood has a 25 yr warranty at a minimum. The nice thing about wood is that it can truly last that long. Carpet has that warranty too but lets be real, do you really WANT to own your carpet that long?
