Q: Is wainscoting is going to go out of style? Is it just a fad?


You can see by the number of questions on this site just how popular wainscoting is. I agree it looks very nice in dining rooms, etc. But, is this look going to go out of style? It's SO popular right now. ...Is wainscoting just a fad?

To answer your question breifly, I do not believe that wainscoting is going to be something that goes out of style completely. Every style that has ever come out ultimately will go in and out of popularity. Wainscoting is something that was very popular a long time ago and has come mainstream with popularity again. It most likely will not be "that one thing that every remodel needs" in the future, but it holds a sort of timeless beauty that will never be gone completely.

A: Wainscoting is here to stay



Wainscoting isn't usually considered a fad. Unlike the "wood" paneling we saw in homes a few decades ago (which somehow has come back, I thought we killed that trend), wainscoting is very much "in".

It is one of those features that prospective homeowners will be impressed with. Think of it as an architectural detail that many of the new homes lack. By adding it, you add style. It is versatile in that you can choose the height you want it on your walls, and you can install it on the ceiling.

A versatile detail that will always have it's place.

A: Wainscoting has been in for over 100 years



Beadboard or wainscoting has been "in" for centuries. Starting back in the 1800s. So I kinda doubt it will really ever go out.
